These are internal files that I have created myself - they have never been online or exposed to potentially virus infecting environments - there should be no requirement to scan them and it slows my system down significantly. happens with all Microsoft office files - pain in the backside.

Reply:Microsoft office has no virus check that I know of. It warns that macros may potentially contain viruses but does not scan for them. Guess you need to check the settings of whatever antivirus you have.

Reply:It is not Microsoft Word that is requesting the virus check. Your machine is running some kind of on-access scanner. It automatically scans all infectable files as they are accessed. Word documents are infectable (by macro viruses), and Word accesses them when it tries to open them - so, the on-access scanner scans them.
If your anti-virus software is any good, it should allow you to exclude from scanning the files that reside in directories specified by you - you can use this feature to prevent it from scanning the large files that seem to be the source of your trouble. If you are not familiar with the anti-virus software you're using, it is best to consult your system administrator.
OTOH, while on-access scanners often cause slow-downs when scanning large files, there is absolutely no reason why a good scanner should slow down when scanning Microsoft Word documents. It is possible to determine very quickly if they are infected or not - without the need to scan the whole file. If this is an option for you, consider switching to a better anti-virus product. In any case, this is a better solution than disabling the scanning for particular files or directories, since the latter lowers the security of your machine - just because these files are clean now does not mean that they might not become infected in the future.
Reply:Ooo, I hate that virus check, hate it! Makes it SO to bring up an internal file. But two different full-time professional software engineers have told me that you can't turn off virus check without putting yourself in danger, that's all there is to it. At least if you're connected to the internet. But if you're offline, with the modem turned off or disconnected, no problem, turn it off and you can go a lot faster. Hope this helps. (I can't tell you just how to turn your virus scan off though because it depends...)

When I go to Add or Remove Programs, I see it listed, but when I click on it, it doesn't have a remove button. Above it is Microsoft Office Professional Edition 2003, which has a change and remove button. I tried uninstalling Office 2003, but Office XP Pro is not uninstalled with it. My logo was made in Adobe Illustrator and I had it sent in pdf, jpeg, and gif to my email. None of these come out crisp and clear on my letterhead. My PC is secondhand and I'm currently doing an online course which requires me to use the Microsoft Outlook but when i open it, it has the previous owners names registered on there, making it impossible to use in "my" course work. You didn't mention the version of Word you are using but for Microsoft Word 2003 it involves two steps:
Step 1: Find the "Microsoft Office Tools" folder in your Programs list. If you made the installation by default it should be located in:
Start -%26gt; All Programs -%26gt; Microsoft Office -%26gt; Microsoft Office Tools
And from there open "Microsoft Office 2003 Language Settings" and from that window add "Spanish" to the list of languages. If you have Office applications open at this time, you will have close them to apply the changes.
Step 2: Now when using Word you must have notice the language you are using in the task bar of Word (the one at the bottom). To switch to Spanish, you need to:
Tools --%26gt; Language --%26gt; Set Language
And from there select the appropiate Spanish version you need.

It's really annoying - I'm trying to write a document and whenever the words don't fit in the box, Microsoft Publisher automatically puts a hyphen and splits the word between two lines! How do I deal with a File Conversion Window in Microsoft Office Word 2003?
If I click on links in e-mail that open files in Microsoft Office Word I get file conversion window requesting I select encoding to make text readable. They offer 3 options: Windows (default), MS DOS and Other Encoding. None of these options make the text readable. Someone suggested updating Java or Adobe Acrobat. There are many others, though, and you might find a more suitable one by Googling 'budget excel template' (for example).

What you describe, however, sounds a little different from a 'household budget' (managing household bills is, of course, part of a budget). Excel is not difficult to learn for this purpose. A1 is the name of the cell you are adding the 5 to. The asterisk is the times symbol in excel. The slash is the symbol for divide in excel.
A is the Column number and 1 is the row number of the cell.
After you enter in you formula just hit the return key.
To add up stuff, type in the numbers you want crunched in a single column.
In the cell below your numbers (or whatever cell you want your total to be in) type:
= Sum(A1:A5)
A1 is the row and column for the first number in the column.
A5 is the row and column for the last number in your column.

What you describe, however, sounds a little different from a 'household budget' (managing household bills is, of course, part of a budget). Excel is not difficult to learn for this purpose. You will need to understand the basic concepts of a spreadsheet and how to use simple formulae. Without doubt, the EASIEST way of going about it would be to invest in an evening course at your local Further Education Centre which, in 6 weeks or less, would give you the grounding you need (as well as a tutor to help with specific problems). This is far easier than buying a book or using an online course, though they will both teach you what you need to know, of course. Learning with a tutor at set times is marvellously motivating and you can, of course, practice at home and apply your knowledge as you go.

Reply:First click a box (cell) you want to put your number in and just type the number in and press enter.
To apply a formula to that number just click another cell (a cell that is not the number you typed in) and type in the your formula.
To type in a formula you must click the cell and put the "equal" sign in front.
example: = A1 + 5
example: = A1*5
example: = A1/5
A1 is the name of the cell you are adding the 5 to. The asterisk is the times symbol in excel. The slash is the symbol for divide in excel.
A is the Column number and 1 is the row number of the cell.
After you enter in you formula just hit the return key.
To add up stuff, type in the numbers you want crunched in a single column.
In the cell below your numbers (or whatever cell you want your total to be in) type:

I want to put a table of contents in for a business report that I am writing in Microsoft Word. I have tried using "Insert - Index %26amp; Tables" but all i get is an error message (i have tried just inserting and also hilighting my text before doing this and neither works!!)

You can fiddle about with the settings inside there but I would strongly advise that you go through your document and change all the headings to the set styles in MS Word i.e. for the main headings set as HEADING 1, then for sub headings HEADING 2 and so on. Also, make sure you have inserted a page number into the header and foot note for all the pages. Whenever you have added something to the document you need to go back to the table of contents and right click then click update.

In the Microsoft Office Language Settings dialog, click the Enabled Languages tab.
Change the value of Default version of Microsoft Office to the default language.
Close any open Office applications, and start (or restart) the application you want to use.

Is it legal to download microsoft office onto more than one computer?
My Dad owns Microsoft Office 2003, and the Microsoft Office 2007 upgrade. Is it legal for me to download these onto my computer?

I understand your confusion. It took me forever to figure out the 2007 version, too. Just go to the "Styles" section on the home tab (which you should already be on) and click the "single spacing" bar, which is the second one. Hope that helped!

I would also go to the bookstore and get an excel for dummy's book. they are probably the best written for beginners and are easy to follow. My advice is... definitely learn excel! There is not an employer out there who isn't looking for someone with experience. It's a great application and a wonderful tool to learn. And... learn word and PowerPoint as well! Very cool applications!

First off, I bought a refurbished Microsoft Zune from eBay. Three months later, the battery suddenly wouldn't charge anymore, and left me with an empty battery. No, you can't read the points directly. The way to do it is to generate the formula for the trendline outside of the chart, and then plug in an X value to calculate the Y value.
Suppose that your original X data is in A1:A5, and your Y data for the chart is in B1:B5. Now, say that you want to know what Y would be if X is 25. Go to a blank cell, say C1, and enter 25. Now, in D1 to get your Y variable (assuming a linear trendline) you could use this formula:
=intercept(B1:B5,A1:A5) + C1*slope(B1:B5,A1:A5)
That will do it. You could, instead, use the Forecast() function, and probably the Trend() function.
Note that if you format the trendline in the chart, you can have Excel put the equation of the line in the chart. However, you shouldn't take that equation and enter it into a worksheet formula. You will likely introduce small errors due to rounding.

nope, once u got all that, just take out the CD disk and hardrive, and no plugs, they will ship you a box and you'll b fine, but they test it for one week on line to c if it works properly, if it does, they'll send it back to you, and they might charge you, they only send you the console, nothing else.

word 2007 auto renames files with an aditional extention you'll need to go into each document and save as word 97-office 2003 extention and then save them to a separate file folder away from word and my documents then remove 2007 and reload 2003

It will not necessarily get you a job but there are certain jobs where if you do not have one then you will be at a strong disadvantage. If you work in Computer Engineering it is probably not a bad thing to have even for your own enrichment. The wider your base of skills are the more useful you will be in a job environment and that leads to higher job security and pay.

A free downloadable version would be great. I've tried lots of internet sites without any luck.
Failing this does anyone no where i can obtain a CD with it on.
My computers O/S is windows millienium which is compatible with the microsoft outlook 2000 . If anyone knows if any other versions are compatible please let me know and where to obtain them !
