The primary political factor at work is national interest. European nations in particular are not eager to have a foreign company dominate their technological world, so they have passed laws requiring open source software to allow their own companies to compete.
Reply:Proprietary software will always be needed to protect against copyright infringement and virus proliferation.
Reply:Of course profit is at the top of the list. Just think if you could have access into your competitors dealings, go in ahead of them and get their business or ideas. I think that goes along with the current strategy of complete control.
