How can I stop Microsoft Word from automatically tabbing my documents?

While working on a lengthy document, Microsoft Word continually tries to tab over automatically, which is creating some real headaches. Certain lines following the beginning of a new paragraph also seem to automatically indent or tab over as well. Any suggestions?

How can I stop Microsoft Word from automatically tabbing my documents?
You've got some paragraph style problems. Not too difficult to fix.

1. Click in a paragraph (doesn't have to be actually selected, just click in it) you want to fix.

2. Right-click and select Paragraph from the pop-up menu.

3. Play with the parameters in the Indentation section, especially the Special list box. I think you want "(none)".

4. Click OK.

The above will correct that paragraph alone. To correct all other paragraphs in the document with that same style, do this INSTEAD of the above. (This assumes Word XP (2002) or 2003. Maybe 2000 also.)

1. Click in the paragraph.

2. Click on the Format-%26gt;Styles and Formatting menu item.

3. In the sidebar that pops up, the style for your paragraph should have a bold box around it.

4. Hover the cursor over the style. A listbox arrow should appear. Click it.

5. Select Modify Style from the list box.

6. Click the Format button and select Paragraph.

7. Perform the adjustments you want in the indentation section.

8. OK out of everything.

All paragraphs in the document with that style should adjust themselves.

Now, if you want to carry this one step further and fix the style on the template your document is based on (probably Normal.dot, but not necessarily), do this:

1. Click the Tools-%26gt;Organizer menu item.

2. In the left-hand listbox, find and click on the style you changed.

3. Click the Copy button between the two list boxes.

4. If you have another style to copy, go back to step 2.

5. Click OK.

When you close your document, you may see a warning message asking if you want to save the changes to Normal.dot. This is an anti-virus measure, intended to alert you that something has changed in Normal.dot. In this case, you made the change, so you want to accept it.

That should do it.
