How do I remove formatting symbols on Microsoft Outlook 2002?

Whenever I compose a new message on Microsoft Outlook 2002, it displays formatting symbols such as a paragraph symbol at the beginning of lines and dots whenever I space. It does not display these symbols when I send the message but it is a nuisance. How do I remove this?

In Outlook, click on tool, select option, click on Mail Format, change your "Compose....Format" box to Rich Text. If Word has been check below, unchecked it. This should give you different look
