You could try using LimeWire but i would not recommend this.
Try downloading http://www.openoffice.org/ for free and easy software to edit with but it's not microsoft made but opens microsoft files.
You may have to buy the software or go onto microsofts website and download the 60 day trial of Office 2007. You can trial it as many times as you want and it includes most of the features.

Reply:Ask your IT guys at school to see if they have any student copies they can give you, or download a free program like OpenOffice.org
Otherwise, you can download the Microsoft viewers which just allow you to view, but not edit.
