If you have say 2003 and are trying to open a 2007 created document; you need to download a compatibility patch from microsoft. If you are using 2007, then there is an option under file save as to save as an earlier version.
Reply:go to file =%26gt; save as =%26gt; 2003 version or earlier
Reply:When you have the file open in Word, click on

[file]

[save as]

On the bottom part of the save as screen, it will ask for type. Click on the down arrow by he format type and scroll till you see the version you want to say it as. Click on that format, change the name if you want to also keep a copy in the 2007 format, and click [OK]
Reply:When you save it their are many different options in the drop down menu, choose .Doc instead of .Docx

Or click the office symbol at the top of the toolbars, then go to Save As, then click Word 97-2003 document.

That will do it. Good luck
